Some churches read a complete gospel passion narrative as part of their Good Friday observance, but even this does not allow any close study of the text. Devotional services at the cross can allow a more detailed reflection but their purpose is more meditative. Mark provides a distinctive account of the passion of Jesus. The study day provides an opportunity to engage with the text at a deeper level.
